Ellis Olczak O’Leary – passed away peacefully after a short illness at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 5, 2016

Wife, Mom, Grandmother, Friend, Gardener, Cook, Teacher, Traveler, Christian, and so much more…..

Ellis Josephine (Konwinski) was always an inspiration to her family and friends. Born to Mary and Feliz Konwinski in 1924 on a farm in Swanton Ohio, Ellis was born a twin and one of 11 children.   She attended our Lady of Lourdes School as a child and then worked hard to help support her family through the great depression.  During World War II she supported the troops by working as a Rosie the Riveter.  Through a co-worker at work she met and married Raymond  Olczak in 1944 during the war, just 6 weeks after they met.  Blessed with 6 children and 9 grandchildren they raised their family in Toledo. Ray died in 1996 after 52 years of marriage with Ellis always at his side.

Ellis was a devoted Mom and was committed to having her children get a good education and a strong religious foundation.  She was a well-respected neighbor, strong leader and taught her children early on the importance of helping the less fortunate.  She was an active member in her parishes at both St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and Regina Coeli Catholic Church.

Later on in life, she loved to travel to visit her children on both sea and land. Over time she had traveled on more than 50 cruises around the globe with her family and friends.  Then in 2005, during a 64 day Pan Pacific cruise, Ellis met Joseph O’Leary at morning Mass onboard the ship and it was love at first sight.  Six months later they were married and enjoyed a wonderful life together for 10 years before her death.

She is survived by her loving husband, Joseph, and all of her children Raymond Olczak, Jr. (Linda), Mary Ann Revell (Charles), Janet Lanterman, (Kirk), Bonita Ash (Wilhelm), JoAnn Weaver ( Chris ), and John Olczak (Kersten).  She adored all of her 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may come to call upon the family at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 16th, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sylvania, OH.  Funeral Mass will be held at the Church beginning at 10:00 AM followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ashanti Hospice at Sunset Communities in Toledo, OH.    4020 Indian Rd., Toledo, OH  43606  (419)724-1047). Arrangements by Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home. Temperance, MI. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
